MICHAEL SERIME

Chef

Michael was born in Pretoria and from an early age, his father took him to his Spaza Shop to assist which provided cooked traditional meals to the local community. 


He relocated to Johannesburg in 1973  and immediately joined Gloria Caterers at the Connoiseur Hotel where he received his training as a Chef which opened up many employment opportunities for him in kosher establishments ever since. 


Michael’s track record confirms his popularity: he worked at Shula’s in Rosebank, Kappe’s Restaurant in Yeoville, the Moroccan Shul and the Linksfield Clinic kosher kitchen which he established together with another 2 chefs. Michael has accompanied Rabbi Akiva Gilbert on many Kosher Safaries and his friendly and sunny personality made him a favourite to run the kitchen at numerous school and youth Camps. 

Michael joined Gan Tamar in August 2022 as head Chef., a position he has taken to “like a duck to water.” He is loved by the staff, volunteers, recipients and donors alike and in a nutshell, he is a “legend” in the Jewish community!
