ALICE FRIEDMAN

Community Relations Manager

Alice was born in Lubumbashi, DRC and her family relocated to South Africa in 1970. Having personally navigated through some challenges in her life, she knew from a young age that she would build up her career in the Humanities. After completing an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology as well as Post-Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management, Alice established her own Personnel Consultancy while, simultaneously, volunteering some time at Yad Aharon & Michael.

Not being a person who does things in half measures and, having discovered her true mission in life, Alice relinquished her 20-year career in the Personnel Industry in favour of a full-time position at Yad Aharon. Under her leadership, the organization earned its rightful place as a highly respected entity in the Johannesburg community. Having dedicated 25 years of her life to building the organization and accomplishing her mandate, she stepped down but she didn’t retire!

In April 2021, Alice met with the Horwitz family whose love for and total dedication to the mitzvah of chesed immediately resonated with her and the rest is history. Gan Tamar Foundation is a registered PBO whose niche and unique mission is to provide fully cooked 3-course Shabbat and Yom Tov meals to the needy in our community, thereby reigniting, for most beneficiaries, a renewed appreciation of the holiness of the day. Alice considers her inclusion in the dynamic and committed Gan Tamar Team a blessing and a privilege.
